Annual student gallery exhibit April 12 – 26

Each Spring the Cultural Center hosts the annual Minnesota State High School League Arts Festival for Region 6A North.  This year the show will be in the gallery April 12-26.  The festival will be on Wednesday, April 26th from 9am-2pm. During this time, approximately 125-140 students and teachers will be in New York Mills to see their artwork in the gallery, hear artist presentations, and attend an awards ceremony at the NYM School.

All pieces entered in the show are scored by qualified visual arts judges according to MSHSL rules and regulations in a variety of categories including imaginative content, skill and technique, style, and more. This year the teachers are have taken the leadership role in planning and executing the exhibit and festival, and the Center would like to thank the teachers for these efforts, especially Shelli Fenske from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
Fourteen area schools are participating in the 2017 show: Barnesville, Bertha-Hewitt, Dillworth-Glyndon-Felton, Frazee, Hawley, Henning, Lake Park – Audubon, Menahga, New York Mills, Pelican Rapids, Perham, Sebeka, Staples-Motley, and Verndale.
Students compete in a variety of categories including Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Media Arts, Crafts, Print Making, Ceramics, 2D Mixed Media/Collage and Graphic Design.

There are approximately 125 pieces of original artwork on display at the Center. The talent and diversity is notable, and is worth a visit during this very limited time (April 12 – 26). The students will take their artwork with them at noon on Wednesday, April 26th, so get in while you can to view artwork from talented regional student artists! Gallery hours are Wednesdays-Thursdays 10am-7pm, Fridays 10am-5pm, and Saturdays 10am-3pm. Gallery admission is free and open to all.
