Please join us for a Book Reading/Signing Event with John Noltner at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center on Thursday, March 21, 2024, beginning at 6:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
John will talk about his latest book, Lessons on the Road to Peace, answer questions, and have books available for purchase and signing.
In the fall of 2020, award-winning Minnesota-based photographer John Noltner and his wife Karen sold their home in Minnesota and hit the road to live small, listen deeply, and learn about who we are as a country.
Lessons on the Road to Peace is the journal of an honest and clear-eyed journey through our country, guided by hope. 900 days, 93,000 miles, hundreds of stories, and one goal…in a divided world, to rediscover what connects us.
Noltner traveled to our southern border to explore immigration, to Skid Row to talk about housing insecurity, to Mississippi to learn about moving Confederate monuments. The book is a journey to the heart of our nation’s greatest pain points, but seeks out the voices of those who are looking for creative solutions to our greatest challenges.

Lessons on the Road to Peace is Noltner’s fourth book in a series for his ongoing project, A Peace of My Mind. Noltner is the Founder and Executive director of A Peace of My Mind, a 501c3 whose mission is to bridge divides and build community through storytelling and art. A Peace of My Mind reflects his belief that art and storytelling can help individuals, organizations, and communities articulate their deepest values and encourage action toward building social capital and community connections.
A gifted storyteller, Noltner has worked on four continents, gathering stories of human courage, grace, and resilience. He has produced projects for national magazines, Fortune 500 companies, and non-profit organizations.
In November 2023, Noltner spent 18 days in New York Mills, connecting with regional residents as part of the “Belonging” project, a collaboration with the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.
