Helen Lapakko
singer / author / songwriter
Helen’s career started in corrections, as a probation officer, chemical dependency specialist, and director of an alternative sentencing program. As a hobby, she wrote monologues and music. Then eventually put those together into a one-woman show, Merica’a Story, which was performed at a variety of venues in the Twin Cities. Helen loves music and performance so she went back to school where she studied music and playwriting. Here plays were performed throughout the metropolitan area. Helen has recorded, produced, and printed two CD’s of her own original music. This year she finished writing Living Outside the Lines, a book of short stories from which Helen will be reading during her performance at the Cultural Center.
