During the last week of June, John Noltner will be the artist-in-residence at the New York Mills Arts Retreat. John’s residency is special in that it coincides with his gallery exhibit currently featured at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, now through Sunday June 30th.
John is an award-winning photographer and author who has spent the past four years exploring the meaning of peace by asking the question: “What does peace mean to you?” to ordinary people. This has turned into an ongoing documentary project, and John continues to collect stories across the country for inclusion in his second book called A Peace of My Mind, American Stories.
During his retreat, John will be interviewing a couple people from our area for inclusion in the project, as well as working to edit some of the interviews for his second book.
There are three opportunities to connect with John during his residency:
- Tuesday, June 25th @ 6:30 p.m. Informal dinner discussion (details below)
- Saturday, June 29th 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Gallery Reception with Artist John Noltner
- Sunday, June 30th 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Special Gallery Hours – final day of exhibit
All are invited to attend events above. The informal gathering on Tuesday June 25th will be a time to discuss and share ideas about John’s project, A Peace of My Mind, over a meal of grilled veggies & meats (provided by the Center) and potluck (all those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share). Weather permitting, we will gather on the back deck of the Center (or inside in the case of inclement weather). Please call the Center to register for this event (218-385-3339), so that we know to expect you. There is no fee, just a request to bring a dish to share.
