The Little Big Year is offering a workshop on May 2, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center in New York Mills presented by Ben Eckhoff, the Area Interpretive Naturalist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources-Division of Parks and Trails.

Spring is in the air and soon you will be seeing our summer birds as they fly back to their nesting areas. We think of feeding the birds during the winter, but from spring to late summer is a great time to feed a few of our returning species like the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds and the Baltimore Orioles.

At this workshop, you will learn more about these species, including what they eat, their nesting habits, how to attract them to your yard and more. Both species eat nectar, but the larger beaked orioles require different ports or styles of feeders to allow them access to the food.

This workshop will include a presentation by Mr. Eckhoff, a question and answer session, and building an oriole feeder to take home with you. This is open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the feeder is $7.00. All materials and equipment will be provided.

There are a limited number of spaces available for the feeder building portion of the workshop and participation will be determined on a first come, first served basis. Sign up by calling the Cultural Center at 218-385-3339.
