@ Wadena Memorial Auditorium
FREE to attend!

Contempo Physical Dance will present “SenZalma” at the Memorial Auditorium in Wadena on Friday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Directed and choreographed by Marciano Silva dos Santos, “SanZalma” is a full-length work inspired by the poem O Navio Negreiro (The Slave Ship) by 19th Century Brazilian abolitionist and poet Antonio de Castro Alves.

Contempo Phyical Dance generates a complex fusion of Afro-Brazillian dance, capoeira (Brazillian martial arts), and contemporary dance to expand audiences understandings of global studies, cultural experiences, choreographic dance, and creative writing.

In addition to this free public performance, artists from Contempo Physical Dance will also spend time in classrooms in both New York Mills and Wadena while they are here, enhancing the experience for our local youth.

Contempo is here thanks to a MN State Arts Board Arts Tour grant, and we are pleased to be partnering with the Wadena County Historical Society to bring the performance to Wadena and help expand the reach of the arts in our region. (The performance is NOT at the Cultural Center.)

Contempo Physical Dance’s performance in Wadena is a free program for Fall 2018 from the Wadena County Historical Society and is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The Wadena Memorial Auditorium is located at 249 Dayton Avenue SE in Wadena. This performance is free to attend and open to all!
