Ben Ranson

Ben Ranson is a nylon-string, finger-style guitarist and comic singer-songwriter from Sebeka, Minnesota. He calls himself a “folksinger,” but he is much more than that. At a recent performance, fans reported “laughing until they cried” as they listened to his songs about potato inspectors, love, taxidermists, garbage men, grasshoppers, and other unusual subjects. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door ($2 discount for members), and $5 for students.

Guitar Improv Workshop @ 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 30th

Ben Ranson will also offer a workshop on unaccompanied improvisation for the guitar at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30 (the afternoon before the concert). This will be a hands-on workshop. Participants must bring an acoustic guitar.

The basic idea is to learn how to make up music, on the spot, all by yourself, that sounds beautiful. To be able to participate in this workshop, you need to know how to play an open E chord and an open D chord.

Techniques covered will include drone strings, arpeggios, call and response, simple chord-melody, and pedal point. Each technique is simple enough to be done by a beginner, but can also be done by advanced players. Cost $15 (10% discount for members). Max 20 participants. Click below to register online:
