Visiting artist Brett Lysne is a visual artist who works in printmaking, drawing, artist books, and writing. Born in Fargo, ND and raised in Crookston, MN, he left the region to obtain a Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking and drawing from Washington State University, which he completed in 2012. After spending a year teaching English abroad and traveling, he is glad to be back in Minnesota and reconnecting with familiar territory.
Over the past few years, Brett has partaken in artist residencies in Washington, Vermont, and Finland. Since November, he has been a resident at the Printmaking Education and Research Studio at North Dakota State University, where he has been making a series of detailed text-based maps that serve as meditations on North Dakotan geography and culture. For his retreat in New York Mills, he is creating a new series of drawings that document the geography, culture, and dialect that are local to Minnesota’s lakes country. To find examples of his past language- and map-based projects, please visit his website: brettlysne.com
Please join us on Thursday, March 6th at 8:00pm to meet-and-greet Brett at a Welcome Reception. Brett will give a brief introduction of his work and where he is from, and will share some of his pieces of artwork. Folks will then be able to ask questions and engage in conversation with Brett and each other. This event will be held in the Cultural Center main gallery following our “Growing Berries” Gardening Class held from 6:00-8:00pm. Both events are free and open to all.
