The Cultural Center has commissioned four artists from the region to paint fish houses and fish decoys on July 11th as part of the New York Mills Summer Celebration.  Kayleen Horsma of Menahga, Pam Robinson from New York Mills, Troy Helget from Kensington, and Bob Johnson from Baxter will paint original art on four fish houses beginning at 9am on Friday, July 11th on Main Avenue in front of the Cultural Center.  Each of these artists will also paint two unique fish decoys.  Everyone is invited to cheer on their favorite artist, enjoy the activities of the Summer Celebration, and bid on a unique work of art on July 11th.

The fish houses and decoys will be completed in time to be auctioned by Bachmann Auctioneers at 6:30pm Friday in front of Central Park in New York Mills.  This project has been made possible through the assistance of the East Otter Tail chapter of the Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association and Rod Osvold of the National Fish Decoy Association.  Immediately after the auction the fish houses will be featured in the Mills’ Summer Celebration parade scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.

The National Fish Decoy Association and Rod Osvold along with the East Otter Tail chapter of the Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association have collaborated with the Cultural Center on this project designed as a fundraiser for the Center.
