Student Art, Local Artists & More
Free to See & Open to All

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to present TACTILE: Fiber Art + Interaction, an immersive, hands-on gallery exhibition inviting visitors to experience fiber art as something not only to see, but also to touch, contribute to, and be part of.

On view February 3–21, 2026, this interactive show celebrates creativity, connection, and community through fiber-based works and participatory experiences for all ages.

At the heart of the exhibition is the Close-Knit Community Project, created using a donated 200-foot scarf woven together with handwritten notes from community members sharing what makes New York Mills special. This collaborative artwork continues to evolve throughout the run of the show, and visitors are encouraged to add their own voices during open gallery hours.

TACTILE also features fiber art projects by New York Mills Elementary School second grade classes, whom the Cultural Center has adopted through its Adopt-a-Class program. Created with guidance from Artistic Director and Gallery Curator Megan Shirley-Ross, these works highlight the creativity of young artists while underscoring the importance of arts education and meaningful community partnerships.

Complementing these projects are selections of fiber art from the Cultural Center’s permanent collection, alongside work by regional artists Naomi RaMona Schliesman, Lindsay Kennedy, and Gen Keranen, showcasing a wide range of approaches to fiber as an artistic medium.

Visitors can engage directly with the exhibition by weaving on a giant loom, adding to the Close-Knit Community Project, and participating in other hands-on fiber art experiences during open hours. The exhibition concludes with a special celebration during NYM Schools’ Fine Arts Day on February 21, bringing art, education, and community together.

Admission: Always free, thanks to the support of members, sponsors, and donors
