Mark your calendars for NYM Welcoming Week Street Fair on September 17th! Brought to you by NYM Forward, this event will bring together newcomers AND long-time residents to celebrate and learn more about all that New York Mills and the surrounding region has to offer.
The Street Fair will take place outdoors on Main Avenue, between East Park Street and Centennial Drive, and will include a variety of booths, information, and activities from local and regional businesses, services, and organizations, providing a fantastic opportunity to discover the resources available to our community.
Family Friendly and Free to Attend!
The NYM Welcoming Week Street Fair provides a great opportunity to learn more about what businesses and organizations are doing to help make New York Mills a place for people of all backgrounds to feel included and find a place to belong. It will be family-friendly and fun, filled with food, games, activities, etc.
Whether you’re new to the area or have been here for years, this event is a great way to connect with others and feel even more a part of our welcoming community. Come out, meet your neighbors, and explore the many ways we can all contribute to making New York Mills a wonderful place to live!
Current List of Street Fair Booths:
- NYM Forward: Learn more about the event host / grassroots community group who has been working on bringing NYM’s vision to life since 2018!
- Otter Cove ON-THE-GO: Come enjoy Otter Cove Children’s Museum of Fergus Falls’ NEW “on-the-go” play activities for kids to enjoy all around Otter Tail County!
- NYM Fire Department: Volunteer firefighters will be on hand to meet & greet, answer questions, and show off one of their fire trucks.
- NYM Police Department: A great chance to meet your local police officer!
- Otter Tail County: Otter Tail County is committed to public service that enriches lives, innovates services, and enhances resources so everyone can live their best lives here. Our service teams are excited to meet you and share information about the wide range of valuable services available throughout the county. We encourage you to stop by, learn more, and stay connected with us. A variety of departments will be represented. Visit ottertailcounty.gov for more information.
- Otter Tail County Highway Department: The OTC highway department will have a snowplow blade at the Street Fair for community members to draw words and pictures showing community spirit on the plow with Sharpies! The plow will be used in the NYM Area, so your artwork for be on display for all to see!
- New York Mills Regional Cultural Center: NYMRCC is a multidisciplinary art center that has been on Main Avenue since 1992. Check out their space and learn more about the many programs and events offered at this community gem.
- NYM Public School: Visit with representatives from the NYM School and learn more about all the resources and opportunities available to NYM students.
- NYM Public Library: Check out the Public Library building and talk with Library Staff about the products and services available to community members.
- NYM Senior Center: Come enjoy the good life with the Senior Center! Join them for Coffee Time – Mondays 9-11AM; Game Days – 1st, 3rd & 5th Tuesdays; Bingo – 2nd Tuesday of the month; Exercise Class – Wednesdays 9:30AM; Cards – Thursdays 1PM; Breakfast – 1st Saturday of the month. PLUS, Meals on Wheels served Monday through Friday – delivered, pick-up, or eat-in. Purchase a gift card for your loved one to receive a daily hot meal, only $4.00 a meal. - Arvig: Visit with local representatives for your residential and business Phone, Internet & TV needs, and learn all about these services and more that this Perham-based business has to offer in our community and region.
- Perham Health: Come meet the newest provider at the New York Mills Clinic, Dr. Amy Jones! Visit with Dr. Jones and learn about all that Perham Health has to offer.
- Roots & Wings Forest School: Roots & Wings promotes learning across all developmental domains (physical, cognitive, social, and emotional) by providing a positive environment that encourages discovery and exploration of the natural world in every season. Visit with Leona Cichy, Founder/Director/Lead Guide, to learn more about the opportunities at this unique forest school located just 5 miles outside of NYM.
- Mills Lanes & Lucky Strike Grill: Visit with Dolly Tumberg to learn more about our very own local bowling alley and all the great activities they have for residents and visitors alike.
- VFW Auxiliary: Established in 1914, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary set out to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. Learn more about the local chapter!
- Finn Creek Museum: Finn Creek Open Air Museum is a Finnish-American open-air museum located approximately 6 miles southeast of NYM. Get information about their almost 50 years of history in the community as well as various Finnish goodies to share!
- Brunswick New York Mills: Home of Lund and Crestliner aluminum boat manufacturing facility, Brunswick is proud to be part of the NYM community and the employer of over 500 employees. Visit with representatives to learn more about job opportunities & more!
- MAHUBE-OTWA Community Action: With a Whole Family-Whole Community approach, MAHUBE-OTWA helps individuals and families from birth through the senior years. Learn more about what they do by visiting with local representatives!
