What’s in Store: Workshops

Master the Craft: Over the course of five engaging workshops, you’ll learn the art of storytelling from a diverse group of expert instructors. From crafting compelling plots and unforgettable characters to perfecting your performance, our hands-on sessions cover it all. Please note, it is NOT necessary to attend all five workshops.

Meet Your Instructors: Our series features 4 dynamic instructors, each bringing their unique storytelling flair. Benefit from their diverse perspectives and gain invaluable insights into the art of writing and performing stories. Our expert list of instructors includes Mark Pagan, Chuck Johnson, Cindy Salo, and Chris Marcotte.

Interactive Learning:

• Week 1: Aug 21: Basic rules of storytelling + participants workshop “the lifespan of a personal object” – instructor Mark Pagán
• Week 2: Aug 28: Structuring a story + participants share a revised outline of their stories – instructor Mark Pagán
• Week 3: Sept 4: How to start/how to end + participants share stories and receive feedback – instructor Chris Marcotte
• Week 4: Sept 11: Performance prep/best practices + participants share stories and receive feedback – instructor Chuck Johnson
• Week 5: Sept 18: Final insights about storytelling formats + participants share “final” versions of stories and receive feedback – instructor Cindy Salo

Then, The Grand Finale!

On Wednesday, October 2nd, from 6-8PM, join us as an audience member, or showcase your newly honed storytelling skills in front of a live audience. This is your chance to perform your story and receive feedback from our judges and peers. Anyone is welcome to be part of the Storytelling Event — writers, storytellers, spoken word performers — this is your opportunity to present your story to a live audience!

Stories must be 7 minutes or less. Maximum 12 storytellers. You do NOT need to have attended the Storytelling Workshops to participate, though workshop attendees get priority registration.

We’re adding an extra layer of excitement for the AUDIENCE! Following each story, the audience will have the fun challenge of voting on whether each story is fact or fiction. Plus, the audience will vote at the end of the event for WHO TOLD IT BEST: the storyteller who delivered the most captivating and engaging performance.
