Workshop Saturday, December 21 (NOTE NEW DATE!)

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to welcome visiting artist Lizzie Lawson to New York Mills for an artist residency this December 2024. All are invited to join her Writing Workshop on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Cultural Center. (PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE! Changed from December 14 to December 21, due to the artist being ill.)

Lizzie Lawson is a writer from Minneapolis, Minnesota, with publications in The Rumpus, The Sun, Split Lip, Passages North, Wigleaf, and more.

She earned an MFA in creative writing from The Ohio State University and has led writing workshops at Ohio State, The Loft Literary Center, and Write or Die. She is at work on a coming-of-age essay collection and can be found on social media (@lizziemlawson) and at lizzielawson.com.

Lizzie will be in New York Mills for an artist residency in December 2024. On Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11:00 – 1:00, Lizzie will lead a workshop in the Cultural Center gallery space.

Getting Started with the Personal Essay Workshop
Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Want to try your hand at writing autobiographical essays about significant life experiences? Do you have a unique story and crave inspiration and community to help you tell it?

In this two-hour class, we will explore the power of personal essays through readings, discussion, and generative exercises that will leave you with fresh ideas and new writing.

Led by Cultural Center Artist-in-Residence Lizzie Lawson, this class is open to all people ages 16+ and there is no cost to attend. Freewill donations will be accepted to support the Cultural Center’s Arts Retreat residency program. Please call the Center to RSVP at 218-385-3339, or just show up.
