Welcome to “ One Word”

This show is an expression of words that have been used to describe 2020.  It is a visual interpretation of feelings and reactions to events that shook Minnesota and the world.

2020 was a year that most will not forget anytime soon, a pandemic, political division, fighting for equality and justice, all were brought to the forefront of our daily lives.  As tension mounted and isolation began to wear on people, it was difficult to find words to express all that people felt and were experiencing.

“One Word” began as an idea to take 4 words that were on the news almost daily; justice, resilience, fear, equality, and have 4 artists visually interpret those words. As the call for artists went out, more and more people of all walks of life wanted to participate.  They recognized the impact art has as a way to deliver a powerful message and express feelings.

These paintings visually reflect the artist’s feelings and emotions in many mediums and styles.  As you view these works, you will recognize many of these feelings in yourself.  It has been a difficult year with a rocky start to 2021.  We hold fast to optimism for a better future.
