Concert @ 6:30 PM

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center’s 2023 Fall Concert Series continues on Wednesday, October 4th with a concert by Danish Folk Duo Gangspil at 6:30 p.m. in the Cultural Center’s intimate visual arts gallery space. All are welcome!

This concert is co-presented by the New York Mills Public Library’s Friends of the Library group and the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.

Gangspil, a Danish folk duo comprised of Sonnich Lydom (accordion, harmonica, vocals) and Kristian Bugge (fiddle, vocals), will take you on an entertaining and variated journey through the traditions of Danish folk music.

These lively musicians perform old dance tunes and songs from every corner of their Scandinavian home country. Expect everything from wild polkas and jigs to lyrical waltzes, fiery reels, happy hopsas, and the exotic “Sønderhoning” dance tunes from the famous Island of Fanø and long-forgotten songs from all over Denmark.

Experienced and versatile Danish folk music act Gangspil has toured intensively and played more than 120 shows in North America since 2015, as well as a good number in other parts of the world. The group has become a well-known name in traditional and folk circles both at home in Scandinavia and abroad.

Both Kristian and Sonnich were amongst the first twelve musicians to receive the honorary title ”Danmarks Rigsspillemænd” (National Danish Folk Musicians) in 2014. When they perform together, they will also talk about the traditions from back home, how they learned, and how the music lives on today and is part of the famous Danish hygge!

In November 2016 Gangspil received a Danish Music Award (Danish ‘Grammy’), in the category of “Traditional Danish Band of the Year 2016” and Kristian was also awarded ‘Musician/Instrumentalist of the Year.’  Gangspil received the award for their title album, Gangspil, and also for their work promoting the great traditional music of Denmark in the US in 2016.

Concert is FREE to attend and open to ALL; freewill donations are encouraged as you’re able. You can donate at the concert, or ahead of time online here (
