The purpose of the New York Mills Welcoming  Communities Project is to provide a platform for equity and inclusion learning through hands-on activities with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and community members.

One of the most important aspects of the Welcoming Communities process is the assessment, which collects feedback from community members on how welcoming we are across seven sectors (school, healthcare, law enforcement, local government, non-profit, religious community, and business). The Assessment closed on January 7, 2024. Results will be shared at the January 24, 2024 Assessment Results Community Meeting at 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the New York Mills City Hall Ballroom.

ALL people who live and work in NYM are asked to take the assessment by January 7, 2024 (NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE!). The assessment is available in both English and Spanish. Just click here:

Of the seven sectors identified, feel free to weigh in on all that you are familiar with. Each one counts towards our goal!

We will use the assessment results to better understand our strengths and areas of opportunity. We will use our 2024 sessions to create an action plan to be more welcoming in the future. Please be part of these efforts by taking the assessment, sharing with those you know, and joining us for future sessions!

If any accommodations and/or support are needed to attend sessions (e.g., child care, translation, interpreter, transportation), contact Betsy Roder at betsy@kulcher.org or 218-385-3339.

New York Mills Welcoming Communities is brought to you by New York Mills Forward along with University of Minnesota Extension, and thanks to financial support from Otter Tail Lakes Country Association, West Central Initiative, Perham Health, and New York Mills Lions Club.
