Lard the Size of an Egg is based on stories collected from New York Mills community members by historian and writer Chris Marcotte.
Marcotte spent six weeks during September and October 2022 at the Cultural Center Retreat House working on her 1897 murder mystery.
Most of the stories Marcotte compiled while in New York Mills focus on a family recipe, a story that went with it, and a photograph. The stories ran weekly from November 15-December 21, 2022 in the New York Mills Dispatch. On some occasions the Dispatch does not have room to include the recipes and photos; if that is the case, they will be posted here.
